The Elizabethans did crazy things to achieve the looks they thought we're 'beautiful'. I am going to list a few facts of how they created their crazy do's. I love the picture above of Queen Elizabeth I, she looks so innocent and royal - it's beautiful. Her outfit is so over the top but it fits her image and persona perfectly.
- The Elizabethans used to pluck the hairs at the front of their hairline to create a high forehead which they considered fashionable.
- To get the height in their hair, they started off using padding. They then moved onto using wire frames. This is similar to nowadays how we used to wet set and use rollers, now technology is advanced and we have heated rollers.
- Women used to bleach their hair to get it as light as possible. However, they sometimes bleached it so much it would just fall out. This then resulted in them wearing wigs.
