Washing hair

Week 1 - Washing Hair

Equipment

·         Wide tooth comb

·         Shampoo

·         Conditioner

·         Wrap

·         Towels

Method

1.       Consultation of your model - analysing their hair, whether is natural or dyed.  Finding out if they’re allergic to anything and if they’re on any medication.

2.       Put a wrap on your model and take model over to the basin, tuck a towel around their neck and make sure all their hair is in the sink before you start.

3.       Turn on the water and check it against your wrist to arrive at the correct temperature for your model.

4.       Next, completely soak the hair making sure you get underneath.  Cup a dry hand around your model’s forehead to ensure no water drips down their face.  TIP – keep a towel nearby to dry your hand before placing it back onto your model.

5.       Put some shampoo in the palm of your hand and begin to rub it into your model’s hair, smooth the shampoo down the hair to avoid knotting.  Wash the shampoo out, however there is no need to be thorough as you will be doing another wash.

6.       Repeat the step above ensuring all of the shampoo is washed out.

7.       Next, apply some conditioner to your models hair and use your wide tooth comb to comb all of the knots out.

8.       Lastly, rinse all of the conditioner from your models hair and squeeze the excess water out.  Wrap their hair in a towel and walk them back over to their seat.
